Stitch Fix: We’re so excited to partner with you for this collection! What made you excited to collaborate with us?
Katie: I went to the Stitch Fix headquarters last fall, and I was beyond impressed with the organization. I thought that the way you are able to leverage data to help with fit is so unique and so important, especially in the plus size space. I also think it’s so cool that you have a fit expert that travels to the factories, educating people on the best ways to fit a plus body. So that’s like the excitement point.
Stitch Fix: What was the design inspiration behind the collection?
Katie: The design inspiration is vacation. I’m always ready, happy and excited to go on vacation, and I dress like I’m one plane ride away from being on a beach. So, I hope that the collection makes people feel happy, and like you wanna take some time. Or, you can just wear it to the office and feel happy.
Stitch Fix: So many brands limit their size ranges. Why was it important for you to create a size-inclusive line?
Katie: Well, not only do I want my plus-[sized] friends to be able to wear my clothes, but I want my straight-sized friends to wear it, too. I think continuing the divide of plus brands versus straight-sized brands just continue to make everyone feel separated and not included. So, I wanted to put everyone in the same clothes!
Stitch Fix: We don’t like to play favorites—but if you had to pick a favorite piece, what would it be?
Katie: I think it’s the blue and white caftan. I love it. Or the red and white caftan. Basically, any caftan.
Stitch Fix: Where are you excited to wear the collection? (We in SF can’t wait to break them out once it gets hot!)
Katie: Like, anywhere. I want to wear them in Italy, I’ve been wearing them—spoiler alert— even though I’m not supposed to. I can’t wait to wear them anywhere. They’re breathable (I’m having a really easy time in the New York City summer, because I don’t get too hot), and they really were designed for summer. Surviving summer, thriving in summer.
Stitch Fix: How do you hope our clients feel when they wear Katie Sturino x Stitch Fix?
Katie: I hope that everyone feels fresh! I hope that people feel like it’s a new style that’s fun and happy, and that you’re trying something new that you like. I just want people to expand their style horizons and experience something that is a little bit out of their comfort zone.
