We have one rule of thumb for packing the perfect carry-on: Make sure you have everything you need to survive one day and one night without your check-in luggage.
Here are five tips on what to pack in your carry-on!
1. Bring the essentials
Make sure that your toiletries like your toothbrush, lotion and makeup (no more than 3.4 ounces!) are tucked away in one clear plastic bag. Travel tip: Stock up on samples before you leave!
2. Go basic
As you plan your outfits, go with those basic staples like neutral tops, jeans shorts, and solid skirts. These base colors should be able to play along with any patterns, prints and bright solids that you bring.
3. Choose multifunctional pieces
Pick items that will create multiple outfits while you’re away. Re-wear that tee you wore on the plane for a walking tour the next day.
4. Pack light (literally)
Bring along lightweight fabrics like cotton, viscose and polyester which will help you lift your suitcase with ease. Bonus tip: If you’re bringing a jacket, wear it on the plane for extra room in your suitcase!
5. Choose comfortable shoes
Nix any shoes that won’t be able to wear all day—we’re talking to you, stilettos! Flat sandals are perfect for walking around and are totally appropriate for a reservation-only dinner.
Before you go, be sure to check everything off of your packing list! Bon voyage!
