It’s a million degrees in the sun, your car’s A/C is straining to keep up and the smell of artificial coconut sunscreen is starting to make your eyes water. We love summer, but we’re also daydreaming about cooler weather ahead: falling leaves, crisp winds and, of course, pumpkin spice. As hot weather winds down, we’ve got the scoop on autumn’s upcoming trends!
Read on for a sneak peek at fall’s biggest fashion must-haves!
Boho Flair
Summer was all about boho vibes, so keep ‘em coming by adapting them to fall temps. Velvety skinny corduroys in a rich hue lend a throwback-friendly spin to a gauzy embroidered peasant top. Cuff the cords to show off ankle booties with a touch of braided detail. Boho accents, like bell sleeves, ruffles and tassel ties, will remain in the fashion limelight. Lariat necklaces and wrap bracelets can also add flower-child flair to any ensemble.
Stylist Tip: While the temps are mild, swap your cardigan for a breezy kimono in a pretty floral print for a twist on the expected.
Animal Prints
Walk on the wild side with animal prints, which manage to be both timeless and on-trend. Try a duster-length leopard print cardi with a black blouse, skinny jeans and metallic flats for a sleek, fall-forward look, or slip on a silky cheetah print skirt with chunky-heeled booties and a bodysuit. Looking for something a little more subtle? A pair of animal print flats can go a long way in adding texture and depth to your fall ensemble.
Athleisure
Oh, athleisure, how we love you. This trend is best-suited for cooler weather, and we can’t wait to break out our fleecy joggers and hoodies when the air gets crisp. Go apple-picking in a cozy graphic sweatshirt paired with your favorite boyfriend jeans and fashion sneakers, or stay snugly with an oversized sweater and leggings to take in a football game. Balance your comfy athleisure pieces with polished items to keep your look laid-back yet pulled-together.
Fall Colors
What would autumn be without its own muted rainbow of gorgeous, deep hues? Follow the color cues of the falling leaves by donning shades of mustard, burgundy, olive and chocolate all season. Persimmon is one of our favorite holdovers from summer; pair a burnt orange sweater with dark denim tucked into riding boots for a trip to the pumpkin patch, and add an ivory scarf to stay cozy and coordinated. For Thanksgiving dinner, print mix a floral skirt with a polka-dot tie-front top, and add tights and suede booties to stay warm and chic.
Prepare for upcoming hot cocoa weather by adding some (or all!) of these fun trends into your cooler weather wardrobe!
