Thanksgiving is right around the corner and we’re already dreaming of stuffing, pumpkin pie and the main course—the perfect outfit. When it comes to what to wear on Thanksgiving, there’s a lot to consider: your look has to be roomy enough for that second slice of dessert, chic enough to post pics to your social feed and comfy enough to kick back for a post-meal nap (no shame in that game).

Between planning menus, table settings and oven schedules, you’ve got a lot on your proverbial plate. That’s where Stitch Fix comes in! From casual to dressy and friendsgiving to fam-giving, our ultimate guide to Thanksgiving dinner dressing has got you covered with outfits so good, they might just upstage the feast.

What to wear to a formal Thanksgiving dinner

If you’ve got a dressy dinner on the cal, it’s time to pull out all the stops. Aside from all of the friends and family you’ll spend the evening with, here’s another reason to give thanks: fall’s dressed-up silhouettes look as chic as they feel comfortable (major score).

A silky midi dress feels like luxe pajamas, but looks ultra-sleek.Reach for body-skimming silhouettes in entrance-making tones of deep chocolate, rich cranberry or sage green,” says Stylist Courtney.

While dresses are the obvious choice for a formal feast, they’re not your only option. Don’t be afraid to shake things up—ask your Stylist for an effortless, one-and-done jumpsuit. You’ll save time getting dressed and can strategize more pressing matters, (like your first stop at the buffet).

As for the finishing touches, late November evenings call for an extra-toasty topper. Bundle up in statement outerwear, like a faux fur coat (which is basically a chic, wearable blanket) or opt for a velvet jacket for an ultra-festive vibe. Into an edgier look? “Don’t forget the tried-and-true moto jacket cut in leather or suede,” says Courtney.

Before you head out the door, grab a shimmering silver clutch or add a hit of shine with a gilded heel, and you’re ready for your seat at the table.

What to wear to a casual Thanksgiving dinner

Hosting a low-key gathering at home, or attending the type of Thanksgiving that revolves around lounging in the family room? A laid-back holiday calls for casual Thanksgiving attire that feels chic, but not stuffy. We’re not necessarily suggesting you start the evening in sweats (unless they’re cashmere?), keeping your look comfy is the move.

Break out the jeans (bonus: grab a stretch style), or quintessential fall cords to add a hit of texture to your look. Either way, Stylist Courtney suggests of-the-moment wide-leg cuts, which are comfortable while looking styled.

Another fave option: a swingy printed dress or skirt feels polished but not overdressed, especially when paired with a chunky crewneck or turtleneck sweater. Keep your shoe choice comfortable with ankle boots, ballet flats or high-style sneakers—they’ve got you covered for that post-meal walk around the neighborhood.

What to wear to a family Thanksgiving dinner

Holiday traditions look different for every family. Whether you’re hosting at home or heading to see out-of-town relatives, you’ll want to feel your best around your fam.

If the goal is scoring a seat at the adult’s table, a flowy, printed dress is a foolproof silhouette that reads elevated and put-together. Stylist Courtney’s favorite print? “A ditsy or prairie pattern in a moody autumn palette.”

Then, layer in cozy pieces to help you stay warm and look cool: add a fitted long-sleeve knit or turtleneck underneath your mini, midi or maxi for extra dimension and a pop of color. Shearling-trimmed jackets, chunky cardis or even denim jackets are all solid ways to top off your look. And for the final course? Bring it all home with a block-heeled boot and a statement earring.

What to wear to friendsgiving

As the old saying goes, friends are the family you choose, and a friendsgiving get-together is a perfect way to celebrate your chosen family. Typically a bit more laid-back, friendsgiving is the perfect chance to impress friends with your on-point style.

Being around your closest circle gives you full permission to debut a personality-packed outfit. If your vibe is edgy, keep it sleek in a leather jacket, fitted denim and a silky top (you never know when dinner will lead to a post-party night out).

Are you the always-polished friend of the group? Relaxed-yet-tailored trousers look flawless with a sleeveless knit top or a chunky sweater. Go head-to-toe monochrome in a rich, fall hue and make room for a generous serving of compliments. A swingy, printed dress and an oversized shacket is a no-fail option if your style M.O. is cool and carefree—just add suede or leather boots to amp up the late-fall energy.
